860 tensions as easy as 1, 2, 3
We all know how
frustrating it is to find the correct tension setting for a particular
thread. However, setting the rotary tension knobs on your 860 takes only a
few simple steps.
- Adjust the tension
knob until the top of the plastic knob is flush with the top of the
chrome post that it is attached to (this is the starting
position).
- Follow the chart
below to set the tension knob for type of thread you are using:
Metallic and
Polyester threads: Turn the tension knob 0 to 1 turns
counter-clockwise. Light color rayon: Turn the tension knob 1
to 2 turns counter clockwise (white being the lightest, one turn
out). Medium color rayon: Turn the tension knob 1 ½ to 2 ½ turns
counter-clockwise. Dark color rayon: Turn the tension knob 2 to
3 turns counter clockwise (black being the darkest color, 3 turns
counter-clockwise)
- After setting the
upper tension knobs, run a column fill 1 inch capital letter "I"
Look
on the backside of the garment and set the bobbin tension so that only
one third of the bobbin thread is showing down the middle of the column.
If too much bobbin is showing tighten the bobbin slightly. If not enough
bobbin is showing loosen the bobbin slightly.
Tips
- The settings were
tested for the Wire and Raypos brand threads. Other brands are very
similar.
- Caps, thick
materials, and small lettering slightly tighten up the bobbin
tension.
